Habitat Map and tree mapping around the campus by 3rd and 4th Class

The students of 3rd and 4th class along with the leadership of their class teacher Mr Fayne have had a busy few weeks working on the Biodiversity Flag activities. They created a ‘Habitat Map” of the school grounds and mapped and pinpointed all the trees around the forest and campus.

Then each student went one step further selected a tree and made an informative project discussing the many trees we have on campus; Scots Pine, Sycamore tree, the birch tree, beech tree, the holly tree, yew tree and how to identify them by their leaves, bark, and other characteristics.

Can you identify these ten Irish and UK trees when their leaves are turning or in full, brilliant autumn colour? Test your knowledge with our autumn leaf quiz and get some top tree facts too.

If you do not have your own 3rd or 4th class student to identify trees in your environment, you could always download this app Tree ID app

Tree ID app is for Android and iPhone to identify the Irish and UK’s native and non-native trees. It is an A-Z tree guide in your pocket. In just a few steps you can identify native and common non-native trees in the UK whatever the season using leaves, bark, twigs, buds, flowers, or fruit. Check out the below video for how to set it up
