This year was a very special year for the Communion Class 2022. It was 3 years in the waiting. Every day we got together and prepared for the ceremonies. We had the Enrolment Ceremony, The First Confession and The Communion Day itself. I must say that preparing for the Communion this year was an absolute pleasure. They really enjoyed the preparations and they learnt all their hymns, prayers and readings fantastically well. The first step was the Enrolment Ceremony. This was a 10 O’clock Sunday mass in St. Patrick’s Church in Monkstown. Father Kevin lead the mass and welcomed all the Boys and Girls and we were in charge of all the readings on the day. The rest of the Church Community were blown away with how well behaved and how dedicated the Boys and Girls were to the roles. The next step was the First Confession. This was a private Ceremony on a Tuesday evening. The Boys, Girls and their families were invited to celebrate in the Ceremony. Again, the children lead the prayers, hymns and readings and I must say they were incredible once again. It was lovely to celebrate with the children and their families. The next and final step was the Communion Day itself. Once again, the children turned up and blew everyone away with their preparations. They knew exactly what to do and when to do it. It was a very special day. We then went back to the school hall and had a lovely celebration where the children were invited on stage to receive their Rosary Beads and Communion Certificate. The hall was decorated beautifully, and the children had a great day. The preparations for this Communion went seamlessly and it all boiled down to the great attitude the children demonstrated from start to finish. This has been a year that I will personally remember for the rest of my teaching career.
