Winter fun in Junior Infants

Winter fun in Junior Infants

It might be winter and a little chilly outside but that hasn’t stopped our Junior Infants from getting to venture outside. We haven’t missed a day yet, since the beginning of the new year running our daily kilometre, every morning we still get our wellies on and run down through the woodlands and rugby pitches, settings us up for the day ahead. We have been running on different terrains each morning; little wet, a little muddy, a little icy and a frosty, but no snow as yet !!

We read the story “Polar Bear and the Snow Cloud” by Jane Cabrerra. The story is about how can a lonely little polar bear find a friend? We like the pictures in the story and some of the children wanted to recreate some of the winter scenes from the book. So, in art the students took part in wax resist painting. First, they drew their picture with wax crayon and then once they finished drawing their picture, they painted over the with water paints. We are proudly displaying the pictures on the entrance hall wall.

We have also got to do a few lessons outside; religion - prayers. Irish - learning about weather. Science - this week we learnt about different forces, pushing, and pulling and took a nature walks looking for signs of winter.

We hope you enjoy our pictures…..until next time
