Monkstown Park Junior School

Principal's Welcome

Lisa Kenna - School Principal

Welcome to our School website.

Monkstown Park Junior School is a fee paying, independent, co- educational Junior School situated in the heart of Monkstown, South Co. Dublin. Located close to Monkstown village and is set within a beautifully enriched and vibrant school campus with acres of green space. Our Junior School caters for boys and girls from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.

Since the most recent school closures on January 11th 2021, we immediately transitioned to our Remote Learning Programme for all our pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. During the course of this current closure, our teaching team will be progressing with all curriculum content and are providing live interactive sessions through Google Meet at specific times throughout the day. Offline our teachers will be continuing to collaborate with their pupils on the Google Classroom platform to answer any questions they may have and provide feedback on assignments set. Our online lessons ensure continuation of our PE classes twice a week also. We feel it's incredibly important to maintain our precious school community and school spirit during this lockdown period, albeit through a computer screen but at present it's proving to be extremely effective for everyone’s wellbeing, nonetheless.

Prior to the announced school closure this year, we were delighted to welcome our pupils back to MPJS. Since re-opening our school, we have had to implement new changes in line with the Government guidelines for re-opening schools safely. Each class has a pod and bubble system in place. We have also ensured our class sizes remain small to allow for adequate social distancing measures and extra space within each classroom. We are very lucky to be situated within a large school building on a big campus. We have access to lots of outdoor open space which again, allows for a very safe approach when our pupils play outside each day. All of us have a part to play in reducing the spread of COVID-19 within our school community and we continue to work hard towards achieving this common goal. Everyone has settled back to school life really well and we commend our teachers, parents and pupils for all their efforts thus far.

Every child that enters through our doors is given the opportunity to grow and develop in a happy, nurturing and supportive environment, that is enhanced with an abundance of learning experiences. Whilst our fundamental focus is on quality education following the National School Guidelines as set out by the Department of Education and Skills, our core values are centered on developing each pupil as a well-rounded individual.

We are a member of the Association of Independent Junior Schools (AIJS) and we maintain a strong link with other AIJS schools in Dublin. We regularly participate in events organised by the AIJS throughout the year.

As mentioned above, we are extremely lucky to be situated on such a large school campus with access to lots of outdoor space including Rugby pitches and Astro turf areas. These are used daily by the pupils to explore the natural outdoor learning environment and be close to nature. Physical activity is vital for each pupil's development and lays the foundation for a healthy and active life. We are proud to say that Monkstown Park Junior School is an 'Active School' there is big emphasis on physical activity and health promotion. We start off our school day with a morning run around the whole school campus. Teachers, pupils and parents partake in this daily event. It has really proven to be the best way to start our school day. We have also seen an increase in attention and memory span amongst our pupils and encourages us all to start the day on a very positive note which in turn, helps facilitate learning in the classroom.

Each pupil within our school is assigned to one of our four long established house teams, this has been a long standing tradition in our school. There are many events throughout the school year that encourage teamwork in areas such as art competitions, talent spots, orator competitions and many more.

Monkstown Park Junior School naturally fosters a vibrant and solid school community that works collaboratively with pupils, teachers and parents alike. I would encourage you to arrange a visit so see our school in action, meet with me and the rest of our dedicated teaching team and experience first-hand what our unique school has to offer.

I look forward to personally welcoming you to our school.
