Rugby training is undertaken by our dedicated team of rugby coaches. Pupils from 2nd – 6th Class take part in school rugby. For the younger pupils, this includes training sessions during the week and for the older pupils this includes training sessions during the week and friendly matches/blitzes that are arranged against other schools at the weekend.
We are very lucky to have four rugby coaches in total who take the pupils every Tuesday and Thursday during their lunch break for training on our rugby pitches.
Mark Shaw is our Head Rugby Coach, Games Master and PE Teacher. He is extremely passionate about the sport and with the help of the other coaches they impart their skills, knowledge and technique to our budding young players. Each coach always encourages good sportsmanship and team spirit amongst the pupils of Monkstown Park.
All of our pupils enjoy proudly representing their school in this fun environment. The Saturday morning matches involve home and away fixtures with other local schools. Our Parent's Committee provide teas/coffees to the parents and drinks and treats to all the players after the match. It really is a wonderful morning.
